We used multiple measures to assess the efficacy of our model and the success of our students. Results from the California standardized teasing (STAR) will not be available until August. For our first year, STAR results will only serve as a benchmark for future years. The results from our pre- and post- tests using MAP Tesing – Measures of Academic Progress (a nationally recognized comprehensive assessment program) and other internal measures are encouraging and an affirmation of the impact of our fundamentally different model in our first year of operation . . . and the tremendous potential as we continue to refine our model. It is also a testimony to the potential for transforming teaching and learning, especially with students who, for the most part, come to high school disengaged and disheartened about their self-efficacy as a result of their previous school experiences and traditional measures of success that only value certain learning styles and abilities.
We achieved exceptional growth in the Hope levels of our students as measured by the Hope Study, and further evidenced in attendance, grades, achievement scores, and re-engagement in the learning process.
The Gallup Student Poll is a landmark new measure that will track for 10 years the hope, engagement, and well-being of students across the United States. Through a Web-based survey administered in America’s schools, cities and school districts are partnering with Gallup and America’s Promise Alliance to gather sound, actionable data that can explain and address the graduation crisis.
