Trade
Tech
High School, an innovative construction-oriented
charter school with a rigorous academic focus,
will host a special open house on Saturday, June
28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for current eighth
graders and their parents. The event will be held
at the Trade Tech campus, 2585 Business Park Drive
in Vista.
Light
of Doom, an Escondido-based band of 12 to 14 year
old musicians that achieved national recognition
when featured on Fox’s The Next Great American
Band in 2007, will give a free 30 minute concert
for families starting at 12:30 p.m.
During
the open house, students
will also have the opportunity to tour Trade Tech’s
state-of-the-art construction labs specializing
in HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, architecture,
and construction management. New construction
lab equipment and computer-aided instructional
equipment for incoming students will be on display
as well as opportunities for interested students
to work on a project and experience the Trade
Tech instructional model first-hand. In addition,
successful mentors from the construction industry
and Trade Tech faculty will be on hand to answer
questions; a free lunch will also be served.

Formed
in 2005, Light of Doom beat over 2,000 bands in
a national competition to win a coveted spot on
the new Fox TV hit, The Next Great American Band.
During the 2007 competition, Light of Doom captured
the attention of the judges and gained fans worldwide

accomplishment for a young band going up against

Trade
Tech High School is an innovative public charter
school. It provides project-driven instruction
in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and construction
management, all consistent with modern green building
design and integrated with California state academic
standards. Trade Tech is currently accepting
100 ninth-grade students through a publicly-held
lottery, growing to 400 students across grades
9 to 12 by 2011. Students will learn through hands-on,
project-based instruction while focusing on leadership
development, civic engagement, on-the-job training
opportunities and internships and community service.
Trade Tech graduates can meet all California State
University and University of California eligibility
requirements while also being prepared for an
accelerated apprenticeship in the trade of their
choice.
Trade
Tech, a non-profit, is tuition-free. It has received
financial support through the Girard Foundation;
EdVisions Schools (a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
funded network), the West Foundation, the California
Department of Education; and industry groups including
the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)
among others.
