Introduction to Theater (Period 5)

Course Description

This course focuses on introducing students to all aspects of the theatrical world while fostering creativity and expression through both onstage and backstage elements. The class encourages growth in self-expression, public speaking skills, the art of stagecraft and coming together as an ensemble of performers with the common goal of supporting one another in the exploration of this art form. Students will be exploring the history of theatre, drawing connections between the past and present and learning technical terms and annotations used in theatre. Students will be reading and performing various scenes and monologues from published plays as well as musicals, writing their own skits, practicing improvisation, and studying characters in depth. The final product for midterms is a talent show style showcase where students can perform a song, dance, skit, monologue etc. The final product for final exams at the end of the year will be a showcase of monologues and scenes from published plays and musicals.
