Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA-PLTW)

Grades: 10-12

Length: One Year

Prerequisite: IED or Engineering Tech

Specialized Course, Pathway to Engineering

Trade Tech Highs’ Green Build Tech Academy

20th Century architecture was "form follows function,” but today's buildings are multi-functional. What is your vision for the 21st Century?

New building plans look impressive onscreen, but how would that cool structure you designed and developed stand up to a flood, earthquake, city inspector, or historical commission? Today’s  CAD (computer aided design) designs integrate architectural structure with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and much more using Building Information Modeling (BIM). New construction also incorporates ergonomic workflow as well as green build technology throughout the design process. This process incorporates a team of engineers from the beginning stages of the architectural plan to create a structure that is highly efficient from the ground up.

What will my classes be like?

Use 3-D modeling software to create and test your own residential and commercial designs, factoring in:
Materials and systems
Structural design
Cost/efficiency analysis
Storm water management
Site design / considerations
Utilities and services
Building codes
Architectural style and guidelines

Research the professional and technical careers in the design and construction industry, including those addressing new developments in energy efficiency, green technologies, and changing populations. Be inspired to shape the spaces of the 21st Century!

Curriculum Topics

CEA is one of the specialized courses in Trade Tech High’s Project Lead The Way Pathway to Engineering course sequence.
