Course Description:

This course provides opportunities to study, practice, and develop group and individual leadership and organizational skills. These skills include decision-making skills, problem-solving techniques, communication skills, leadership roles, human relation skills and understanding the need for civic and school responsibility.

Students enrolled in the course will apply these skills in dealing with peers, school administration and the community. The course will have a hands-on, active learning approach to leadership. The course can be customized to meet the needs of a Student Council, but is also adaptable to a broader student population.

The framework allows teachers to provide leadership instruction so that students will:

  1. Communicate effectively
  2. Understand the role of leadership and its influence on others
  3. Be aware of personal leadership attributes
  4. Apply organization strategies and management skills
  5. Form decisions considering goals, resources, and need
  6. Take responsibility for personal actions and acknowledge the rights of others
  7. Extend leadership opportunities beyond the classroom to the school and community

Instructions: Each student will create their own coat of arms. In the first space, draw something that represents a recent achievement. In the second space, draw something that reflects your values. In the third space, draw something that represents where you see yourself going in the future. Post the finished coat of arms in your office.
