Earth Science (Period 4)
Course Description
Welcome to my Earth Science Class. The purpose of the Earth science course is to introduce students to the principal concepts of Earth/environmental science through reading and experimenting. The tentative goals for this year are to learn about:
- The scientific method and tools of inquiry;
- Earth four spheres (hydrosphere, geosphere, biosphere, atmosphere), and the biogeochemical cycles (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, water).
- The interpretation of topographic maps;
- Earth’s matter/composition, the rock cycle;
- California’s mineral, energy, and water resources and environmental issues;
- Plate tectonics, earth’s history;
- Atmosphere and weather;
- Earth in the Universe (Kepler's laws, the solar system, the stars);
-Earth’s water: properties of ocean water and freshwater, erosion due to water.
The following instructional strategies will be used for this course: reading guides /graphic organizers (Holt McDougal Littell Earth science textbook); laboratories; online simulations and webquests; homework to review vocabulary and concepts.
Materials to bring in class are a pencil, a ruler, line and graph paper, and a folder to keep handouts.Upcoming Assignments See all
