Computer Science 105 (Period 2)
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to computers and computer networking. The introduction to computers portion of the course covers computer hardware, principles of computer operations, operating systems, representing data digitally, the World Wide Web and digital security. The introduction to computer networking portion of the course is based on the globally accepted Networking for Home and Small Businesses course. The focus is on network terminology and protocols, local-area networks (LANs), wide-area networks (WANs), Open System Interconnection (OSI) models, cabling, cabling tools, routers, Ethernet, internet Protocol, (IP) addressing and network standards. This is a college accredited course of which, earning a grade of B and above will give students, who have been admitted to community college, the opportunity to add 3 units for a course taken in college.
