Finish Carpentry (Period 1)

Course Description

This finish carpentry course will introduce students to the skills necessary to perform basic to advanced finish carpentry projects. Students will learn the names and purposes of finish trims and material finishes.

Students will learn to use the proper tools to perform specific finish trim applications.

Students will perform installations of varied finish trim products, i.e. baseboards, base shoe, door and window casings, door jambs, wainscoting, crown molding, chair rail, etc. Students will learn to hang interior and exterior doors and install door hardware.

Students will be able to explain and understand the relationship between rough carpentry work and its unintended effect on the quality of the finished product.

Upon completion of the course students will be competent in the aforementioned applications and understand the difference between marginal quality and high quality workmanship.

Students will walk away from this course with some projects worth bragging about.
