Length: Two Semesters
UC A-G Requirement: No

9th Grade Academy is designed to support students’ transition to high school while developing essential academic skills for success. This course focuses on building effective study habits, improving time management and task completion, and strengthening core academic skills required for success across all subjects. Students will gain a clear understanding of high school expectations, with a strong focus on becoming effective self-advocates and taking ownership of their educational program. Through engaging activities and collaborative projects, students will
develop academic confidence by learning how to approach tasks with a positive mindset and the belief in their ability to succeed. We emphasize building resilience, helping students understand that setbacks are part of the learning process and that persistence leads to growth. By learning how to set realistic goals and track their progress, students will gain the confidence to tackle more complex assignments and challenges, setting the foundation for continued success throughout their high school years. The core project in this course is autobiographical writing, which both emphasizes writing skills, but, more importantly, encourages students to use their unique voice to tell their own story.
