hi there welcome back to school Miss Fitzgerald AKA Misfits and let me tell you what's going on this year I am teaching all of the 9th grade one class of 10th graders I have the yearbook team and I have a small group of English 12 small group of seniors who've opted to take that optional class and keep challenging themselves so I just want to talk about the basics over all of the classes you're booked pretty self-explanatory we've got to make a yearbook kids are letting me know who can stay after and work we're figuring out how we all work together I'm excited figuring out name now and English 12 group of seniors I know we work our things out most of the work setting class the remind app you don't know about it already it's highly useful confidential and if you read the screen you can see there's different ways to join the group if you prefer email I'm free male students I think texting is the best but if you're paying for texting still or for whatever reason if your child doesn't have a phone no problem via email but that we want to get in the habit of checking the email because when I do start using it and send reminders to them I don't want them missing out on that Chromebooks and chargers they have them we need them at school I promise I'm not having kids on the computer time in English class but they do need them they need to be comfortable working and digital platforms and for my class they need to be able to edit the writing not all work will be done on the computer please help them get organized and have them with them at school every day thanks Google Classroom. Everything will be in classroom is in classroom will be great I don't know, depends on on the nature of the work but I'm trying to show the kids how to go in and actually view their work to look at the feedback given on assignments and yes you can see in the I'm created in Google classroom but you won't see an overall class grade and parents won't be able to see details and assignments unless they have their child log on to the student side of things as parents clicking to send an invite to your email for you to join and then you basically you'll get a summary each week and it'll let you know the work that they've done or not done as far as Google classroom okay the basics. We're reading a course of reading an English we're going to read short stories are going to read a novel and we're also going to read books that they choose what we're doing SSR sign sustained reading every maybe down into class and they're starting to look at we're going to be completing with those folks so those reluctant readers are realizing we need to get her book and I have been accommodating students by letting some listen to audio and just trying to meet them where they are so let me know if you have any special concerns and ask them what they're reading make sure you're okay with it and get them talking about it it really helps alright thinking every year it needs to get a little more deep with the taking all right different perspectives taking in more information knowing fax from a pinion in a really thinking about things so just wanted to point that out writing a coarse Focus both of them to know how to express themselves and writing it doesn't necessarily come naturally and it's a skill that we can develop and work at so try to get them writing every day as well listening and Spa they're still part of the standards of it okay and we all speak naturally and we don't necessarily have to work at it as much as writing but with listening we need to practice sometime so I do make that have the students listen so we do speak and listen everyday on the website you will see there is a new Alaska this on the website as well but if you go to on my teacher page you will see a bio about me my syllabi are also posted there and this is what I want to point out grades in Parent Portal Student Portal they can have their own log on as well and new students were provided that information with their school log-on information as well but if for whatever reason they don't have need some assistance contact in the office and she can get you set up but we definitely want student set up to be able to check their grades and parents when do you want to office hours Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15 to 4 right here in my class and please email or send me a reminder message if you have any questions or concerns and send be great here have a good one
