Construction Tech 1

Students have the chance to use more advanced construction tools, expand their knowledge and techniques, and develop their skills; especially the skills needed to protect themself and remain safe on a jobsite.  In addition, practice with essential communication skills provide trainees with greater ability to work more effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

This course includes practical examples that emphasize the importance of verbal and written information and instruction on the job.  Students utilize their knowledge and skills to design and build an animal structure (i.e. a dog house), built with the same techniques that builders use to construct actual homes.  Additional building projects will be provided, maximizing student time engaged in hands-on experiential learning.

This class emphasizes the importance of realistic budgets, working drawings and estimation skills.  Students will design individual projects, using parameters given by the instructor.  Projects will include material take-offs, cost estimations and completion schedules.  Continued instruction in tool safety, communication, teamwork and personal responsibility are emphasized.
