Personal Finance meets the new state requirement for financial literacy set forth in AB 2927. This course is designed to help students make informed decisions about real world financial issues. Students will analyze their personal financial goals, evaluate the costs and benefits of potential decisions, recognize their rights and responsibilities as consumers, and apply the knowledge learned to financial situations likely to be encountered in their futures. Students will design personal and household budgets simulate the use of checking and saving accounts demonstrate knowledge of investment, debt, and credit management evaluate and understand insurance and taxes, and develop a comprehensive understanding of rental and lease agreements. There will be a focus on learning the different types of income and payroll taxes, and students will practice how to properly complete and file IRS form 1040EZ and State of California income taxes. In addition, students will learn the basics of Business Finance. Students will gain an understanding of the necessary components to determine market capitalization of
private and publicly traded companies. The course provides students the opportunity to gain a strong understanding of the stock, bond and real estate markets.
